Reviewer: Eric
Frost has a unique sound to them. As a progressive band you try to do that
one thing to make stand out amongst everyone else. For some reason Frost is
taking a few steps back with their latest release, Experiments In Mass Appeal.
It just does not sound right.
The album doesn’t exactly get off on the right foot. The opening track, the same
title as the album, is way to slow for me. I don’t dislike these kinds of songs
but it is not a good way to start off an album. It is way too slow and
depressing for my taste especially on an opening track.
The rest of the album has the same ongoing trend, dark and depressing. This is
the sort of album that might make you rethink a few things. Music? I don’t know,
I couldn’t get past how this album played out so the music was just sort of
there in my mind.
With the progressive sound you get longer than normal tracks. In this albums
case it does not help a whole lot. I don’t know if it is too depressing or if
Frost wrote a below par album.
Final Verdict
Something about this album just didn’t sit right with me. I couldn’t get past on
how dark and depressing it was. Experiments In Mass Appeal might have been
better if the band mixed things up a little or if they had two sides to the
story. With that said I think it would be best to check out the bands last
release, Milliontown.
