Developers don’t have a whole lot to work with when it comes to Wii Ware. Certain developers so far haven’t shown too much with their games on Wii Ware, but that is about to change. Frontier Developments have gone ahead and taken this short task and have created something special.

LostWinds deals with you taking control with the wind. Toku must save the island Mistrails from evil. Balasar threatens to plague the island with his power. It is up to Toku, along with the wind spirit Enril, to stop him.

The games story is told through different pictures. Something very unique about this game is it has dialog from the characters. Nintendo doesn’t even like to do this with most of their games for whatever reason.

In general the story isn’t original. This game feels like an old school game with enhancements. You do get to control the wind with the Wii Mote, which is better than summoning a wind creator, like in most RPGs.

This entire game made the size limit for Wii Ware titles. I am not sure how the developers got to add both 2-D and 3-D elements in this game, without screwing it up. The game looks beautiful, most of the games graphics look much better than half of the third party games the Wii has seen in the past year.

Toku is controlled with the combination of the Wii Mote and Nunchuk. There aren’t a whole lot of movies to do with Toku, most of the difficult moments in the game will be done for you (jumping). You can control the wind without any problem and the same thing goes for when you earn another gust.

Some of the games controls due cause some problems. Certain motions of the game have you holding down one button and then you just have to press the button. To be fair this isn’t a huge problem with the game, to me I think Nintendo should be more to blame due to the lack of buttons on the Wii Mote.

Final Verdict
LostWinds is the best valued game on Wii Ware right now. For only $10 you can buy this game, its incredible how Frontier added so much into this game with the slim space that was provided from Nintendo. If you haven’t bought a Wii Ware game yet, then you should pick up LostWinds up first.
