Sequels
are the way of life for video games. When the first game does well it is only
time when the second one comes out. When the sequel does hit store shelves you
usually see a lot of improvements. Majesco thought it would be great to put
together the same game and slap the number two on it.
Cake Mania 2 uses all the same gameplay elements that made up the first game.
Trying to find the differences between these two games would take forever.
Either the new features blend in together too well or they do not exist.
The Cake Mania games were extremely popular on the PC. The simple gameplay
features made this one of the biggest downloaded games of all time. When the
Nintendo DS game came out, it took only time for this to get ported.
When it was time to bring out the second one Majesco decided to add nothing new,
but at the same time they kept the twenty dollar price tag. The biggest change
here is the number two and the few additions to the customers and cakes.
Jill is branching off into six different bakeries this time, nothing new. She
stays in the bakery for a year, where every month counts as a level. All you
have to do is make cakes and watch the money come rolling in. Been there done
that.
You can argue and say how this game has a lot of levels, but you pretty much
play all of them within the first year. The levels start to get harder as you
progress in the game, but it seemed like at one point the difficulty curve went
back a few steps, making the game almost start all over again.
Once again there are no multiplayer features in the Cake Mania franchise. This
may have given the game that extra boost to sell more games to harder gamers,
but you can tell that Majesco does not really care about putting in that extra
time to make a great DS port.
Final Verdict
Do you really want to spend another twenty dollars on the same game? Of course
not, Cake Mania 2 is pretty much the same damn game. Nothing has really changed.
Even if you were to find something new, you could figure out that a new texture
was thrown over an original. Pass this title, but if you have to own it then
please wait for a discounted price.
